Why writing blogs and sharing knowledge still matters

There’s not many newsletters I read regularly - Allen’s “Ready, Set, Cloud!” is one of them. He’s been regularly writing and expressing that YOU have become more quite in 2026!

At the AWS Heroes Summit, we had a lot of conversations about the power of expressing our thoughts and opinions, the learnings we’ve made through sharing out battle scars and the things we have learned ourselves by reading blogs from others.

AI being accessible as much as it is in 2026 makes it “too simple” to just use it to generate blog posts. But this creates new problems!

Writing documents - Marc brookers view

A few weeks ago I read this post by Marc: writing documents is an essential capability of the Amazon (and AWS) culture. It is so important to make cross functional teams understand each other and understand the thought and reasoning process of engineers. Using AI to generate documents (internal or external ones) is tricky and while Marc advocates for not using AI at all, I see more and more people do that.

I find myself doing it - for internal “context gathering” and “writing” - and “creating documentation”.

Writing in your voice vs. generating

Actually, Nexus Share also supports me from time to time to create social media posts - using AI.

Nexus Share also knows “my voice”, my “tone of writing” and with that it can help me create things. BUT, I read and correct what the AI generates for me. I tweak it, change it, modify it and make sure that it expresses my thoughts and my mind.

There’s a difference in using AI to generate content - reusing existing posts and documentation without adding your own thoughts.

Your own thoughts and opinions - written up

The most valuable thing in blog posts or written content have always been your own thoughts, your ideas, your battle scars. Your experiences, your decisions.

Decisions are what make you unique. Mistakes are the things that create learnings - not only for you, but also for the ones reading and laughing about your mistakes!

I spent $60 USD in may because I was experimenting with AWS AgentCore (integrating it into Pegasus Galaxy)! I’ll not do that mistake again and I have yet to write up the mistakes I made!

Speak up and never stop!

As I’ve written up in one of my latest posts, feedback is a gift. Every blog you write is feedback: to the open source mantainers, to the blog post writer that you are mentioning, to the product team whose product you’re testing (or critizizing) in your post. I’d love you to continue to express your own opinions.
